Korea's two app stores pointed in opposite directions this week. On the App Store, shopping led: Olive Young entered the free chart at #4 and Pocket CU climbed from #26 to #9 between October 26 and November 2, 2026 (Apple App Store). On Google Play, games led — and all three apps that held Korea's top three a week earlier were gone from the Top 30 (Apptica, November 2, 2026). In Japan, Meta's Muse stayed at #1 on both stores for a second week. In the US, ride-hailing led the App Store climb: Uber rose from #19 to #5 and Lyft from #40 to #6 (Apple App Store, November 1, 2026).
Data: Apple App Store Top Free 50 and Google Play Top Free 30 (all categories) for Korea, Japan, and the US. App Store feeds of November 2 (Korea) and November 1 (Japan, US), 2026, compared with October 26 (US: October 25); Google Play via Apptica, November 2 compared with October 26, 2026. The two lists are different lengths, so “outside the Top 50” (App Store) and “outside the Top 30” (Google Play) are not the same bar. Rankings change daily; these are free-download charts, not revenue.
Which apps rose fastest on Korea's and Japan's App Store?
| App | Market | iOS move Oct 26 → Nov 1–2 | Publisher | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Olive Young (올리브영) | 🇰🇷 Korea | Out of Top 50 → #4 | CJ Olive Young (KR) | Beauty retail |
| Pocket CU (포켓CU) | 🇰🇷 Korea | #26 → #9 | BGF Retail (KR) | Convenience store |
| DramaWave | 🇯🇵 Japan | Out of Top 50 → #7 | Skywork AI Pte. Ltd. | Short drama |
| Hama-raku (はま楽) | 🇯🇵 Japan | Out of Top 50 → #10 | Hamazushi (JP) | Sushi takeout |
| Pickle (피클) | 🇰🇷 Korea | Out of Top 50 → #15 | Pickle, Inc. | AI agent |
1. Olive Young: Korea's beauty retailer enters at #4
Olive Young, the app of CJ Olive Young's health-and-beauty store chain, entered Korea's App Store free chart at #4 on November 2, 2026, after being outside the Top 50 on October 26 (Apple App Store).
The app combines online shopping with store lookup and skin diagnosis (App Store listing). We could not confirm what drove this week's jump, so we are not attributing a cause.
Fashion apps that climbed last week held their ground: SPAO rose from #9 to #5, TOPTEN10 stayed near the top at #6, and UNIQLO moved from #17 to #10 (Apple App Store, November 2, 2026).
2. Pocket CU and Korea's convenience-store apps move together
Four Korean convenience-store and grocery apps rose in the same week (Apple App Store, October 26 vs. November 2, 2026): Pocket CU (BGF Retail) #26 → #9; 7-Eleven Korea (세븐일레븐) out of Top 50 → #11; Emart (이마트) out of Top 50 → #12; and GS25's app Woori Dongne GS (우리동네GS) #36 → #19.
Emart's entry lines up with Shinsegae Group's SSG Day sale, held October 30 to November 8, 2026 (SSG.com, 2026). We did not find a matching event for the three convenience-store chains, so we are not attributing their moves.
None of these four appear anywhere in Korea's Google Play Top 30 (Apptica, November 2, 2026). The next section looks at why that gap is this week's biggest story in Korea.
3. DramaWave: back in Japan's top 10, up 27 places in the US
DramaWave returned to Japan's App Store free chart at #7 on November 1, 2026, one week after dropping out of the Top 50 (Apple App Store). It had been #12 on October 19.
In the US it climbed from #39 to #12 (Apple App Store, November 1, 2026). In Korea it slipped from #37 to #44.
The app is a vertical short-drama service from Skywork AI Pte. Ltd. that lists more than 30,000 titles in 18 languages (App Store listing).
The rest of the short-drama category reshuffled again: ReelShort left Korea's Top 50 from #8 and Vigloo fell from #13 to #27, while two new short-drama apps entered the US chart, NetShort (#39) and VibeShort (#40), which offers AI-generated series (Apple App Store, 2026).
4. Hama-raku: a sushi chain's takeout app enters at #10
Hama-raku is the takeout ordering app of Japanese conveyor-belt sushi chain Hamazushi: users order and pay in the app and pick up at a chosen store (App Store listing).
It entered Japan's free chart at #10 on November 1, 2026 (Apple App Store). Hamazushi's main app fell from #17 to #30 in the same week. We could not confirm a promotion behind the move.
The app has been on the App Store since August 2023, so this is a chart entry, not a new launch (App Store listing).
5. Pickle: a Korean-made AI agent in the market Muse has not reached
Pickle, an AI agent app from a Silicon Valley startup founded by Korean entrepreneurs, entered Korea's App Store free chart at #15 on November 2, 2026 (Apple App Store; The Herald Business, October 22, 2026).
It carries out tasks for the user, such as ordering on Coupang and Daiso Mall, booking restaurants and KTX train tickets, and links to Naver, KakaoTalk, and the government portal Gov24. It asks for approval before payments and bookings (The Herald Business, October 22, 2026).
Meta's Muse, which does similar work, has not launched in Korea (The Herald Business, 2026). It held #1 in Japan and #2 in the US on the App Store this week, and #1 in both Japan and the US on Google Play (Apple App Store, November 1, 2026; Apptica, November 2, 2026).
Pickle has been on Korea's App Store since August 10, 2026 (App Store listing).
Why does Korea's Google Play chart look nothing like its App Store chart?
Because the two charts are not ranking the same kind of app. In the week to November 2, 2026, Korea's App Store top 20 held four convenience-store and grocery apps and three fashion retailers. Korea's Google Play Top 30 held none of those seven. Five of the Google Play top 10 were games, and all five had entered the Top 30 that week (Apptica, 2026).

Korea, Google Play Top Free 30, November 2, 2026 (Apptica). “New” means the app was outside the Top 30 on October 26.
Korea's Google Play top three turned over completely
All three apps that held Korea's Google Play top three on October 26 — the tower-defense game Galactic Outlaw: Tower Defense at #1 and two Korean-made games at #2 and #3 — were outside the Top 30 by November 2, 2026 (Apptica).
Korea replaced 11 of its 30 Google Play apps in that week, against 9 in Japan and 7 in the US (Apptica, October 26 vs. November 2, 2026). It was the fastest-turning of the three charts.
One app shows the split inside a single brand. The fashion retailer TOPTEN10 held #6 on Korea's App Store this week and dropped out of Google Play's Top 30 from #23 (Apple App Store; Apptica, 2026).
What this means if you are planning a Korean launch
A Korean App Store position built on a retail promotion can hold for two weeks: SPAO, TOPTEN10, and UNIQLO all stayed in the top 10 across both weeks (Apple App Store, 2026).
A Korean Google Play position built on a game launch has, on this evidence, roughly a one-week shelf life at the very top. We are describing two weeks of one market, not a rule — but it is a reason to read a Korean Google Play entry differently from a Korean App Store entry.
What led Google Play in Japan and the US?
Muse held #1 on both stores in Japan for a second week. Meta's AI agent held #1 on Japan's Google Play Top Free chart on November 2, 2026, and #1 on Japan's App Store on November 1, a second consecutive week at the top of both (Apptica; Apple App Store, 2026). In the US it was #1 on Google Play and #2 on the App Store the same week. Muse has not launched in Korea, where it appears on neither chart (The Herald Business, 2026).
A simultaneous two-country entry one week became a collapse the next. Last week the game Survivor: Ace entered Korea's Google Play chart at #5 and Japan's at #10 in the same week (Apptica, October 26, 2026). This week it sat at #22 in Korea and was out of Japan's Top 30 entirely.
This week a second game repeated the pattern: Monster Hunter Outlanders entered at #2 in Japan and #8 in Korea (Apptica, November 2, 2026). It is listed under a different publisher in each market — Garena Online in Korea, Level Infinite in Japan (Apptica, 2026). The one-week-old precedent is the useful part: a simultaneous two-country entry tells you a launch happened, not that it held.
Japan's Google Play chart filled up with PDF readers. Four PDF viewer apps sat in Japan's Google Play Top 30 on November 2, 2026 — QuickDoc (#13), Easy Reader (#15), AdoPDF (#19), and PDF Reader – PDF Editor (#30) — up from two a week earlier (Apptica). Japan's App Store top 30 held none. A Japanese launch benchmarked only on App Store rank will miss this layer.
One publisher, two apps, three countries. SKYWORK AI holds #1 on Korea's Google Play chart with FreeReels and #7 in the US with the same app, while its other short-drama app, DramaWave, is #7 on Japan's App Store (Apptica; Apple App Store, 2026).

Google Play. All ranks: Apptica, Google Play Top Free 30, November 2, 2026; moves vs. October 26.
Food apps rose on both sides of the App Store, but different kinds. In Korea the climbers were convenience stores and a hypermarket. In Japan they were restaurant chains: Hama-raku entered at #10 and Baskin-Robbins Japan's 31Club at #16 (Apple App Store, 2026).
Five apps are in all three countries' App Store Top 50 this week, down from six: ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Claude, Threads, and DramaWave. ReelShort dropped out of Korea's chart and Spotify out of Japan's, while DramaWave returned in Japan (Apple App Store, November 1–2, 2026).
Six apps are in all three countries' Google Play Top 30, the same count as last week, but not the same six: ChatGPT, Block Blast!, Meowdoku, Rotate Rings, TikTok Lite, and TikTok. Instagram left Korea's Top 30 and TikTok entered it, swapping one for the other (Apptica, 2026).
Korean apps in Japan went in different directions. setlog (New Chat) rose from #4 to #3 on the App Store and Coupang's Rocket Now from #13 to #12, while zeta (Scatter Lab) fell from #15 to #25 there and from #22 to #27 on Google Play (Apple App Store; Apptica, 2026).
A Japanese app entered Korea's chart. Tabelog, Kakaku.com's restaurant guide, entered the App Store at #39 with its Korean-language edition for travelers to Japan (Apple App Store; App Store listing, 2026).
Which apps are big in the US but missing in Korea and Japan?
| App | 🇺🇸 US (Nov 1) | 🇰🇷 Korea | 🇯🇵 Japan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uber | #5 (up from #19) | #49 | Not in Top 50 |
| Lyft | #6 (up from #40) | Not in Top 50 | Not in Top 50 |

Apple App Store Top Free 50.
Ride-hailing. Uber and Lyft both jumped into the US top 10 in the same week, and robotaxi app Waymo entered at #38 (Apple App Store, November 1, 2026). Japan's ride slot goes to local taxi app GO at #26. In Korea the ride-related newcomer is a worker app, not a rider app: Kakao T Picker, for Kakao Mobility's delivery and designated drivers, entered at #21 (Apple App Store; App Store listing, 2026).
Race-day apps. New York Road Runners' app, which offers live runner tracking, entered at #13 (Apple App Store; App Store listing). The 2026 New York City Marathon was held on November 1 (HOLA! USA, October 29, 2026). Last week Japan had its own marathon spectator app, Ouen navi, at #24.
Event discovery. Posh (#8, new) and Partiful (#21) are general event apps. Japan's event apps on the chart are tied to one show or ticket seller: KAMIGATA EXPO PARK FES 2026 at #24 and e+ at #29 (Apple App Store, 2026).
Which local apps should North American readers know?
Tabelog Korea (타베로그) — 🇰🇷 Korea · #39 iOS, new this week. The Korean-language edition of Tabelog, the Japanese restaurant review service run by Kakaku.com, with menus, payment information, and reservations for travelers to Japan (App Store listing). Think Yelp, but built for planning meals in another country. It was released in Korea on November 9, 2025 (App Store).
KAMIGATA EXPO PARK FES 2026 — 🇯🇵 Japan · #24 iOS, new this week. The official app for a two-day outdoor festival at Expo '70 Commemorative Park in Osaka on October 31 and November 1, 2026, featuring Kansai-born STARTO ENTERTAINMENT acts such as SUPER EIGHT and Naniwa Danshi (ticketjam magazine, 2026). It carries the venue map and timetable (App Store listing).
31Club — 🇯🇵 Japan · #16 iOS, new this week. Baskin-Robbins Japan's membership app (the chain is known there as “Thirty-One”), with sign-up and birthday coupons and points (App Store listing).
Kakao T Picker (카카오 T 픽커) — 🇰🇷 Korea · #21 iOS, new this week. Kakao Mobility's app for gig workers who do quick delivery, walking delivery, designated driving, and truck delivery (App Store listing). The closest US equivalent is the Uber or DoorDash driver app.
FreeReels — 🇰🇷 #1 Google Play, 🇺🇸 #7 Google Play. A vertical short-drama app from SKYWORK AI, the Singapore publisher behind DramaWave. Korea's two #1s this week came from different places: Naver Plus Store, a Korean retailer's app, led the App Store, while FreeReels led Google Play (Apple App Store; Apptica, 2026).
Summary
Korea's two stores split. The App Store climb was shopping — Olive Young in at #4, and four convenience-store and grocery apps rising together led by Pocket CU (#26 → #9) — while Google Play's top 10 held five games, all new that week, and none of those seven retail apps (Apple App Store; Apptica, November 2, 2026).
Korea replaced 11 of its 30 Google Play apps in a week, more than Japan (9) or the US (7), and the entire Google Play top three from October 26 was gone.
Meta's Muse held #1 in Japan on both the App Store and Google Play for a second week, and #1 on US Google Play. In Korea, where Muse is not available, the Korean-founded AI agent Pickle entered the App Store at #15.
DramaWave returned to Japan's App Store top 10 at #7 and rose 27 places in the US, while its publisher SKYWORK AI took #1 on Korea's Google Play chart with a different app, FreeReels.
In the US App Store, ride-hailing led: Uber #19 → #5, Lyft #40 → #6, and Waymo entered at #38.
